Fair opened in Russia with Latin American presence

By Antonio Rondon Garcia

Moscow, Feb 10 (Prensa Latina) The international Prodexpo-2020 food fair opened its doors here today with the participation of 2,625 companies from 70 countries, with a large presence of Latin America, in an area of 100,000 square meters. Out of the total number of companies represented, at least 1,850 are Russian, while this time, dozens of countries are presenting national exhibitions, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba and Uruguay, while Venezuela and Uganda are doing it so for the first time.

Speaking at the inauguration, in which a greeting from Russian Minister of Agriculture, Dmitri Patrushev, was read, the head of the committee for attention to the regions of the Duma (Lower House of Parliament), Nikolai Kharitonov, said that more than half of the Russian administrative divisions is in Prodexpo.

Kharitonov said that at least 25 regions are attending for the first time one of the most important food fairs in Europe and the number one in Russia. The Prodexpo Wine specialized fair is held within the framework of the event, attended by 38 nations.

Argentina and Chile are the Latin American states most represented in the Russian wine market, something they are showing in this meeting, which will end on Friday, at the capital’s exhibition venue.

Pablo Barahona, director of the ‘ProChile’ Chilean Trade Commission in Russia , told Prensa Latina that he is promoting nuts and wines from his country at the fair.

Russia has always been among the main markets for our products such as wine. We are seeking to penetrate the Russian market, especially with reserve wines and nuts, such as almonds, in a market where these products are consumed a lot, Barahona said.

We have been in the Russian market for almost 30 years, and our products are known here, including Chilean apple, grape and kiwi, as well as almond or walnut, one of the best in the world, he said.

Meanwhile, Eli Martin Chavez, export manager of Petruz Acai, a Brazilian company, told Prensa Latina that, in this market, he is promoting the acai fruit (known for its properties to slow aging).

This time, Brazil is also presenting at Prodexpo meats, peanuts (the largest producer in America), cocoa, coffee and dairy products, and it already has a permanent representation in this nation, Chavez said.

Besides national exhibitions, the samples exhibited in at least eight pavilions are also divided by specialties such as alcoholic beverages, dairy products, sausages, canned food, and dried fruits, among others.
