In a letter to Manuel Merino, President of the Congress, Zeballos accepted to appear before Parliament on May 28, leaving aside his previous reluctance.
The prime minister expressed some few days ago his surprise for having been summoned to a face-to-face and not virtual legislative plenary session, as Parliament has been working following the norms to avoid meetings and contagion by coronavirus.
However, Merino said that only one spokesperson from each of the minorities making up Congress and the board of directors will participate, and Zeballos agreed, trusting that social distancing measures recommended by health authorities are taken.
Congress demands that the government’s plans are exposed, to seek a vote of confidence or ratification, for which it invokes an article of the Constitution that indicates so.
Tensions between the two powers of the State built up by Congress’ decisions that contradict the Executive and the harsh criticism President Martin Vizcarra made for the Legislative this week, whose head said that the president is failing in the campaign to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
